Me and my brother Ben have both been working at Johns for a few years, mostly on saturdays and odd occassions in the week, and our family have been going to john for years for the best sausages around that can never been matched in quality. he is a great boss and superb butcher only selling meat that he feels is of the highest standard. keeps us laughing too with his mad songs and all 'his' girls.

John Bethney takes great pride in his sausages, and quite rightly so.He will only use the best quality locally killed pork. If that is not available nor are his sausages. John is one of the few local butchers left. They are in short supply. The thought of mass produced sausages is not a pleasant thought.Keep up the good work "Piggy".
John Bethney has been in Farnborough for over 50 years and his father before. His award winning sausages are worth travelling miles for. He won't even sell you meat he doesn't think is ready! An eccentric who will discuss any subject under the sun. We need more like him!
If you want good quality meats and sausages, a sense of humour and to leave a butchers in a good mood and having not had to take out a second mortgage this is the place for you! The product is the best around, the proprietor is zany but lovable and he won't rob you over the prices... unless he presses the wrong button on the scales. The £40 chicken was a bit of a joke earlier this year for me and my husband! Excellent place!
If good meat is what you are looking for, with a friendly smile and of course the obligatory, chat, this is the place to go. If it is for 2 sausages, a large rib of beef, John can certainly provide you with the best quality around. Around Easter time I visited John for a rib of beef. I left with pork... apparently the beef had only been knocked over that week and was not ready! He sold me a cheaper cut than I could have had as he is as concerned about the quality of your Sunday lunch as you are. Thumbs up, if you are in the area, or even if you are not, you should travel to come and see him. Full marks, keep up the good work John and team.
I moved to Farnborough three years ago and was recommended a butchers in North Camp by everyone I met. One day I decided to take a trip and find this fella john that everyone had been raving about....well my life hasn't been the same since!!! Not only did John supply me (and still does) with excellant meat but he filled me in on the local history, offered me a few lines from his latest Top 40 release and introduced me to the infamous Charlie Dimmock!!! His sausages are too die for but a visit to John is so much more. He takes time to ask how you are and is always concerned that you are getting the very best quality meat he can supply. A real treasure. One of his ladies!!!
As mentioned, 'Bethers' is a tad eccentric but by God are his sausages excellent!! I run a local pub and get the majority of my meat from him. I don't think I can recall a time when I have had any bad meat from him at all. Whenever anybody has my Bangers'n'Mash I am ALWAYS asked where I get my sausages (or 'swags' as he calls them) from. His award winning sausages vary in flavours and he is constantly searching for more exotic fillings for them. My advice to anybody in the South of England is to not worry about the cost of petrol and get into the shop, talk to John about which sausages and meats he recommends - it might take a while as you'll be asked everything from where your from to (probably) your shoe size. If only more butchers were as dedicated to their art and as delightfully quirky as John then we wouldn't need supermarket meat counters!
When I return from my travels (Work) it's great to spend time with John chewing the "fat" and to get to grips with proper meat again.
We've been using Bethney's for the last 6 months and can honestly say that the quality of the meat he sells is second to none. We buy everything, including his joints and chops, his wonderful homemade sausages and faggots to his "Charlie Dimmocks" (work that one out). Add to this his cooking and storage hints and his quirky sense of humour and you have the perfect family butcher. Takes me back to my days as the Saturday lad in my local buthchers 40 years ago!
We are surrounded by supermarkets who display wonderful looking meat. But try the taste - ugh!!! Pay a visit to John's shop, purchase perfectly prepared and aged meat. Perhaps even purchase some of those award winning sausages. Trade insults and jokes with John. Leave the shop feeling happier than when you arrived and as a bonus you are carrying a bag of the best meat and sausages in the whole area.
We always use Bethany's Butchers, and wouldn't dream of going anywhere else, as John's sausages are always delicious.
Always friendly. Always helpful. The best sausages we have ever had. We always take them on holiday when we are self catering as they cannot be bettered.
